CHAIRMAN of
Tea Trade Association of Malaysia

Chairman’s Message

Unemployment rises rapidly in numerous countries amidst the strike of global economic storm that also has an impact on Malaysia. A good deal of professions and trades are struggling for subsistence as I take over the leadership as Chairman of Tea Trade Association of Malaysia. At the beginning, I have encountered with psychological pressure and burden. However, after much consideration later, I have decided to meet the challenge. Fortunately, the Ma1aysian financial system is still solid. Our economic stimulus plan really works and has regained the public's confidence. Products abound and the people live in plenty in Malaysia, bringing us great hope with secondary products like marine products, petroleum and natural gases besides being agriculturally developed.

The members of our association engage in vanous tea trades such as Pu’ er Tea, oolong Tea, Tieguanyin Tea, Green Tea and Black Tea, etc. Some of our members export the Black Tea produced in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia to Europe and United States of America. Some members also operate coffee business as a sideline. The deep affection of tea passes on from generation to generation over the past hundreds of decade. The unfailing charm of tea has indeed fascinated all walks of life, including the ancient imperial and descendants of aristocratic families as well as the populace.

The tea trade sector in Malaysia has been undoubtedly affected by the g1obal financial
crisis. However, tea is indispensable to the public's daily lfe. Nowadays, people are too fastidious about the way to keep in good health. Even a small cup of ordinary tea will also be good for health as tea reliefs dyspepsia as well as helps in digestion and bowel cleansing. Tea contains tamin (a catechin), caffeine, vitamins and elements such as potassium (K),magnesium (Mg), iron(Fe), calcium(Ca),zinc (zn), and germanium (Ge) and so on and so forth. Some tea are rich in selenium (Se) which can catalyze the toxic hyperoxide to reduce it to nontoxic oxylate so as to protect the biomembrane. Deficiency of selenium will lead to decline in level of immunity. By discovering the advantages and marvelous effects of tea with the help of great advances of technology, the public have enhanced their knowledge and experience on tea usage via abundant detailed reports and information.

There are plenty of channels of exploring the advantages of tea in order to promote
and develop our business. Although the tea trade sector is now in hard time, we can
still give enomous publicity to the functions and efficacies of tea by means of education through different media like internet and promotion as wcll as the introduction of specific books in the market and information available.

I sincerely hope that all members would provide their precious advices to our association and share with us their commercial experiences with the facility of our website in the spirit of complementing each other and mutually beneficial to one another. Let’ s work hand in hand to overcome all problems and hardships, thus pushing our activities to a grater height.
