ABOUT US

Malaysia Tea Association (MyTA) formally known as Tea Trade Association of Malaysia (TTAM) [1999-2019] and Tea Merchants’ Association, Federation of Malaya [1956-1999], was established in 1956 by a group of tea merchants around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Since then, its membership spread nationwide. MyTA is a non-governmental, non-profit trade association with the objective to promote and encourage interaction, co-operation and development of tea trade and tea cultures locally and abroad, besides protecting the interest of its members and carrying out social responsibilities.

With the vision of the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” whistling in recent years, MyTA, siting at an important transit point during the ancient silk road due to the geographical location of Malaysia, actively respond to the world stage of tea with  “meeting friends with tea”. To mark a new milestone, our Association initiated various tea related activities.

The inaugural issue of MyTA’s quarterly bulletin TEA▪TIME, aka ‘Cha Shi Cha Wei’ was launched in 2012 with the objectives to service its members, disseminate tea events locally and abroad, sharing important information and special articles on tea, etc.

MyTA has strenuously organised the Malaysia International Tea and Coffee Expo (MITCE) in year 2014, 2017, and 2019 respectively, an industry exhibition event solely dedicated to all aspects of the tea and coffee business. MyTA also organised in year 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019, the Piala TTAM-Battle of Teh Tarik competition with Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners’ Association (PRESMA), Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners’ Association (PRIMAS) and KL Tea Art Society, Malaysia (KLTASM), to promote the unique authentic Malaysian Cultures that has transcended beyond gender, race, status, culture, religion and national origin and play a significant role in the daily lives of Malaysian.

Since 2018, MyTA has toured various ASEAN countries to initiate the establishment of ASEAN Tea Organisation (ATO). The Objectives are to strengthen the co-operation amongst the ASEAN countries with respect to Tea Trade and Tea Cultures. The proposal received active participation of tea organisations from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, etc. and strong support from The International Tea Committee (ITC) and Tea Department, China Chamber of Commerce of I/E of Foodstuff, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA). ATO was officially registered in 2019 and application was made to ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to be affiliated as a Civil Society Organisation.

马来西亚茶业商会成立于1956年,原名马来亚联合邦茶业商会(1956-1999),

属非政府、非盈利民间组织团体,由吉隆坡和雪兰莪州一带的华裔茶商共同倡组,渐晋为会员遍布全国的茶商组织,主要肩负会员福利、同业相辅的重任,担当茶业资讯交流站、业内外合作枢纽等桥梁角色,积极为茶贸易与茶文化筹谋划策。

近年来,随着“21世纪海上丝绸之路”宏愿哨子响起,因缘马来西亚作为古代海上丝绸之路的重要驿站,本会顺应时势积极回应茶叶世界舞台,开启了马来西亚茶业商会“以茶会友”的新里程碑。就在2012年秋,倾情策划的内部会刊《茶事茶味》创刊,既打开了一道资讯共享的窗口,也为本会带来了涡旋的凝聚力。

2014年、2017年以及2019年,马来西亚茶业商会三次主办了—《马来西亚国际茶与咖啡博览会》[Malaysia International Tea & Coffee Expo],更成功邀约马来西亚穆斯林餐馆业者协会[PRESMA]、马来西亚印度餐馆业公会 [PRISMA]以及雪隆茶业咖啡粉制造商公会[SKLCCTSA]联办博览会压轴活动—《马来西亚茶业商会杯拉茶比赛》,加上2015年和2018年的两场独立赛事,至今共五届的拉茶比赛,带动了一股国内外个人和团体拉茶舞台竞技和表演的拉茶文化热潮。

2018年以来,马来西亚茶业商会着眼着意加强东盟地区的茶叶贸易和茶文化交流,倡议创办东盟茶叶组织 [ASEAN Tea Organisation],得到泰国、印度尼西亚、新加坡、越南、缅甸等茶叶组织附议和参与,获中国食品土畜进出口商会茶叶分会 [CFNA] 和国际茶委员会 [International Tea Committee] 鼎力支持,于2019年完成正式注册,进而提呈申请成为东盟设于印度尼西亚雅加达秘书处所认可的民间社会组织一员。
